Trusted To The End

“As for His failing you, never dream of it – hate the thought of it.

The God who has been sufficient until now, should be trusted to the end.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

The Power of the Dogs

Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.

I can count all my bones;
people stare and gloat over me.

They divide my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing.

But you, O Lord, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to
help me.

Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from
the power of the dogs.

Psalm 22: 16-20

The Lion Of Judah

This is what the Lord says to me:  “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against him, he is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor— so the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.

Isaiah 31: 4

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

The Christ

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them,

“Peace be with you.”

They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?

Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.

He said to them,”This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets and the Psalms.”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures. He told them,”This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”

Luke 24: 36-48

I Am

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Exodus 3:14

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. John 8:23

“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” John 8:58

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25, 26

“I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.” John 15:1

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. ” John 10:9a

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

John 10:11

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

The Finger of God

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8: 3,4

When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.

Exodus 31:18

In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept questioning him, he straightened up and said to them,”If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

John 8: 5-8

Do I Dare?

Do I dare Disturb the universe?… T.S Eliot (1888-1965)

THERE is but one only, living, and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, working all things according to the counsel of His own immutable and most righteous will, for His own glory, most loving, gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him; and withal most just and terrible in His judgments; hating all sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty…

II. God hath all life, glory, goodness, blessedness, in and of Himself; and is alone in and unto Himself all-sufficient, not standing in need of any creatures which He hath made, not deriving any glory from them, but only manifesting His own glory in, by, unto, and upon them. He is the alone fountain of all being, of whom, through whom, and to whom are all things; and hath most sovereign dominion over them, to do by them, for them, or upon them, whatsoever Himself pleaseth. In His sight all things are open and manifest, His knowledge is infinite, infallible, and independent upon the creature, so as nothing is to Him contingent, or uncertain. He is most holy in all His counsels, in all His works, and in all His commands. To him is due from angels and men, and every other creature, whatsoever worship, service, or obedience He is pleased to require of them…

III. In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost: the Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son…

The Fear Of God

The fear of God is a many-faceted jewel of Biblical truth.

One of those facets is seen in the Book of Proverbs in the simple sentence:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs. 9:10).

The beginning of new life in Christ is the beginning of the fear of the Lord (Ps.130:4).

The beginning of the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Pro.1:7).

The beginning of wisdom is the beginning of a life lived in harmony with all of God’s cause-and-effect systems: natural, physical, social, and moral-especially moral.

There are only two kinds of people in this world: those who live in willing harmony with God’s moral law and those who live in willing rejection of God’s moral law.

The first kind are considered the Wise.

The other kind are called “fools” (Ps.14:1).

I AM

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.”  John 11:25a

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ”  John 14:6

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.   Acts 4:12

I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
Revelation 1:18

You Feed Them

By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

But he answered, ” you give them something to eat.”

They said to him, “That would take eight months of a man’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”

“How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five-and two fish.”

Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.

They all ate and were satisfied,
and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.

The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
