Green Tree Dry

And
their shouts prevailed
their demands
their will
what they asked for

Now
weep for yourselves
for the time will come

When
you will beg
the mountains to fall
the hills to cover you

Men
do these things
they do not know
what they do
they get what
their deeds deserve
darkness covering the land

But
those that know
stand at a distance
watching
not consenting
waiting
for the kingdom of God

Walley

A Polished Arrow

He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand
he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his
quiver. He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will
display my splendor.” But I said, “I have labored to no purpose; I
have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me
is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.”
Isaiah 49:2-4

You Mighty Man

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man?
Why do you boast all day long, you who are
a disgrace in the eyes of God?

Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a
sharpened razor,

you who practice deceit.

You love evil rather than good, falsehood
rather than speaking the truth.
You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!

Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:

He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent;

he will uproot you from the land of the living.
The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh
at him, saying,

“Here now is the man who did not make God his
stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and
grew strong by destroying others!”

Psalm 52: 1-7

Unless

“Unless the people, through unified action,
arise and take charge of their government,

they will find that their government has
taken charge of them. Independence and liberty
will be gone,

and the general public will find
itself in a condition of servitude
to an aggregation of organized and selfish
interest.”

Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

They Shall Reign With Him

… you see the sinless Son of God bearing the sin, and,
by consequence, the condemnation of his people. And
in that wondrous spectacle, you see brought to the
bar of Infinite Justice – tried, sentenced, and condemned,
in the person of their surety – all those who are in
Christ Jesus.

In Christ they were chosen – to Christ
they were betrothed – with Christ they were united –

by Christ they are saved, – and, sitting with Christ
on his throne, they shall reign with him for ever and
ever.

From No condemnation In Christ Jesus by Octavius Winslow (1808-1878)

p 8,9 First Banner of Truth edition 1991

A Nation

“A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize

the rights which God has given them

cannot be enslaved.

It is in the region

of ignorance that tyranny begins.”

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

But Mark This:

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

2 Tim 3:1

We Are More Than Conquerors

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life,

neither angels nor demons,

neither the present nor the future,

nor any powers, neither height nor depth,

nor anything else in all creation,

will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39

The overcoming of fear—that is what we are proclaiming here. The Bible, the gospel, Christ, the church, the faith—all are one great battle cry against fear in the lives of human beings.

Fear is, somehow or other, the archenemy itself. It crouches in people’s hearts. It hollows out their insides, until their resistance and strength are spent and they suddenly break down.

Fear secretly gnaws and eats away at all the ties that bind a person to God and to others, and when in a time of need

that person reaches for those ties and clings to them, they break and the individual sinks back into himself or herself, helpless and despairing,

               while hell rejoices….

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945)
