He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible
and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things
were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in
him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church;
he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything
he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness
dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether
things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood,
shed on the cross.

Colossians 1:15-20

The Magi

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from
them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them
to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search
for the child. As soon as you find him, report
to me, so that I too may go and worship Him.”

After they had heard the king, they went on their way,
and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them
until it stopped over the place where the child was. When
they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with His mother Mary,
and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened
their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and
of incense and of myrrh.

Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not
return to Herod, they departed for their own country another
way.

Matthew 2:7-12

The Shepherds

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch
over their flocks at night.

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and
the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But
the angel said to them,

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David
a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will
be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and
lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared
with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth
peace to men on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them
and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,

“Let’s go to
Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has
told us about.”

Luke 2:8-15

Evil Done Well

“Evil is never done so thoroughly or so well as when it is
done with a good conscience.”

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

The Last Days

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful,
proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal,
not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of
pleasure rather than lovers of God—

having a form of godliness but
denying its power. Have nothing to do with such them.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus
will be persecuted,

while evil men and impostors will go from bad
to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Timothy 3:12,13

Is It Not Obvious

“And is it not obvious that, just as it is a crime to disturb
the peace when truth reigns, it is also a crime to remain at
peace when the truth is being destroyed?”

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

Oh My People

Oh my people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path.

The Lord takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people.

The Lord enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people:
“It is you who have ruined my vineyard: the plunder from the poor is in your
houses.

What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the
poor?” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

Isaiah 3: 12b-15

To Distinguish

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use
have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Hebrews 5:14

The Mighty

…“Lord, there is no one like you to help the
powerless against the mighty.

Help us, O Lord
our God, for we rely on you, and in your name
we have come against this vast army.  O Lord,
you are our God; do not let man
prevail against you.”

2 Chronicles 14:11
