The Potter

The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me
with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.

Therefore, once more I will astound these people with wonder
upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence
of the intelligent will vanish.”

Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from
the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, “Who sees us?
Who will know? “

You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be
like the clay!
Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not
make me”? Can the pot say of the potter, “He knows nothing”?

Isaiah 29:13-16

Truth

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days…
2 Timothy 3:1

always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

Our Harps

There on the poplars we hung our harps, for there our captors asked us for songs,…

Psalm 137:2,3a

The Problem

“Once people stop believing in God, the problem is not that they will believe in nothing; rather, the problem is that they will believe anything.”

C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)

The Person Who Understands

“The person who understands the evil in his own heart
is the only person who is useful, fruitful, and solid
in his beliefs and obedience.
Others only delude themselves and thus upset families,
churches, and all other relationships. In their self-pride
and judgment of others, they show great inconsistency.”

John Owen (1616-1683)

My Cry

He said:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—

from violent men you save me.

I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.

The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents
of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called to the Lord;
I called out to my God.

From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.

2 Samuel 22: 2-7

Ancient Sacrifice

The tumult and the shouting dies,

The Captains and the Kings depart,

Still stands thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.

Rudyard Kipling ( 1865-1936)

Man’s Wisdom – Man’s Strength

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom,

and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

1 Corinthians 1:25

A Week Comes and A Week Goes

Bloodthirsty men hate a man of integrity and seek to kill the upright.

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself
under control.

Proverbs 29: 10,11

The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives
sight to the eyes of both.

Proverbs 29:13

The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.
Proverbs 29:27

My Darkness Into Light

You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness
into light.

With your help I can advance against a troop;
with my God I can scale a wall.

2 Samuel 22:29,30
