The Way You Should Go

These are rebellious people, deceitful children, children
unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.

This is what
the Sovereign Lord,… says: “In repentance and rest is your
salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you
would have none of it.”

Isaiah 30:9,15

This is what the Lord says-…:

 “I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the
way you should go.”

Isaiah 48:17

Stand At The Crossroads

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look:

ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,

and you will find rest for your souls.”

Jeremiah 6: 16

My Strong Deliverer

Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men; protect me from men of violence
who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.

They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of
vipers is on their lips.

Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from
men of violence who plan to trip my feet.

Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the
cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.

O Lord, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O Lord, my cry for
mercy.
O Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the
day of battle-

Do not grant the wicked their desires, O Lord; do not let their
plans succeed, or they will become proud.

Psalm 140:1-8

The Spirit of Truth

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them,
because the one who is in you is greater than the one who
is in the world. They are from the world and therefore
speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens
to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us;
but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how
we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

1 John 4: 4-6

The Potter

The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me
with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.

Therefore, once more I will astound these people with wonder
upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence
of the intelligent will vanish.”

Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from
the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, “Who sees us?
Who will know? “

You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be
like the clay!
Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not
make me”? Can the pot say of the potter, “He knows nothing”?

Isaiah 29:13-16

Truth

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days…
2 Timothy 3:1

always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

2 Timothy 3:7

Our Harps

There on the poplars we hung our harps, for there our captors asked us for songs,…

Psalm 137:2,3a

The Problem

“Once people stop believing in God, the problem is not that they will believe in nothing; rather, the problem is that they will believe anything.”

C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)

The Person Who Understands

“The person who understands the evil in his own heart
is the only person who is useful, fruitful, and solid
in his beliefs and obedience.
Others only delude themselves and thus upset families,
churches, and all other relationships. In their self-pride
and judgment of others, they show great inconsistency.”

John Owen (1616-1683)

My Cry

He said:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—

from violent men you save me.

I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.

The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents
of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called to the Lord;
I called out to my God.

From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.

2 Samuel 22: 2-7
